A month of Celebration

This April is going to be a month of celebration for us. I cannot wait to be a part of so many special celebrations.
The most important of them all is that our little duckling is turning two! I am in party planer mode currently, my head is a full of ideas for his jungle themed party. I love it! With so much happening this month I am trying to find some really simple and effective decorations. Spent maybe a little too long this last fortnight on google and pinterest looking for ideas! I do like to make my own, so I will be going for a mixture of store bought and hand made things. They do say that great minds think alike and another special event is my duckling’s dear friend Miss Y who is also turning two. She also is having a jungle themed party, the weekend before our celebration! We didn’t even speak to each other about what we were doing until I saw her invitation! Next year we’ve decided we will converse on the topic of party themes beforehand! It really doesn’t matter, the decorations will be different for each, though our guests may be ‘jungled out’ by mid April!!!
Throw into the mix Easter, and I am sure a bbq or two with family, which I think is the best way to celebrate Easter. We are keeping the chocolate to a minimum this year (for us adults!) and our little duckling is quite happy with a cupcake as a special treat. He is allergic to eggs, milk and peanuts, so it is handmade goodies all the way. Plus I have made him a little chick that is part of the ‘Friends for Felix’ Easter range to unwrap on Easter morning.

Off to a Hen’s night which should be loads of fun and then two weddings in two weeks! I do feel blessed to be able to share such a special day with our close friends.

By April 30 I think I will be ready for a holiday! (or just a weekend at home!) I am looking forward to lots of smiles, giggles, a few happy tears, taking too many photos, wearing pretty dresses and my new pretty heels, yummy food and excellent company.

A little duck turns one!

We recently celebrated our duckling’s first birthday party. I had spent the last 3 months planning his party, everything from invitations, party hats, decorations and food. I really enjoyed creating a special day for him. Unfortunately in the madness of getting ready for the party in time, I didn’t get a chance to take some photos of my work before the party started (luckily I have a couple of shots from a fantastic friend!)

The gluten free, dairy free, egg free carob and banana cake for our little duckling and cupcakes for the crowds

Cutting the cake. I am happy how his hat turned out
(and that it stayed on his head for more than 30 seconds!)
Felt is my fabric of choice at the moment and am really loving working with it. For his party I created a party hat and mini bunting for the cake stand out of felt. I also created tissue paper poms poms in red, blue and white and a Happy Birthday banner continuing the blue and red and car theme.

Now that the birthday celebrations are over I must admit that I have been feeling a little flat. All the thoughts about decorating and creating are gone now that I don’t have a project to work on! SO I need to find a new project to get started on….
